I've called Mills River home for the past seven years, and I can tell you exactly why I love it.
LOCATION!
I can be on the highway in ten minutes, tucked away in Pisgah National Forest in another ten, downtown Hendersonville in about fifteen, and Asheville in roughly twenty. Even the Asheville Regional Airport is just a short drive away.
Yet when I'm home, I'm surrounded by mature trees, wildlife, quiet roads and the peaceful mountain environment I love.
Mills River gives me the best of both worlds—close to everything, yet wonderfully removed from it all.
And that's just the beginning of what makes this community special.
Mills River has deep agricultural roots, and you can still see them everywhere. Working farms, open fields, winding country roads and beautiful mountain views are all part of the landscape.
But Mills River is also changing.
As more people discover the convenience of this location, some longtime farms are giving way to new residential developments. And there's an ongoing conversation within the community about how to accommodate growth while preserving the rural character that makes Mills River special.
I see that contrast right in my own neighborhood.
I live in an established golf community with homes dating back decades, mature landscaping and neighbors who have been here since the neighborhood was developed. Yet just down the road, beautiful new homes are being built, bringing younger families and a whole new generation of residents.
That's Mills River today—a blend of longtime residents, established neighborhoods, agricultural traditions and newer communities.
And understanding those differences is important when deciding where you want to live.
Because a brand-new home overlooking what used to be farmland offers a very different experience from an established home surrounded by mature trees.
Neither is necessarily right or wrong. It's about finding the setting that feels right for you.

One of the things I love most about living in Mills River is how much I have within easy reach.
From my own neighborhood, I can be exploring the quiet beauty of Pisgah National Forest in about ten minutes, heading toward Asheville in twenty, or enjoying downtown Hendersonville in roughly fifteen.
And the Asheville Regional Airport? Just about ten minutes away.
That's a pretty remarkable combination.
But convenience here isn't just about getting somewhere else.
Mills River has its own wonderful amenities. We have grocery shopping close by, including Ingles and the newer Publix, along with Mills River Park—a beautiful community gathering place with walking trails, pickleball courts, playgrounds, a dog park and plenty of room to enjoy the outdoors.
And then there's Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.
I jokingly call it the Disney World of breweries. The grounds, architecture, gardens and overall experience are incredible. In fact, I regularly tell prospective buyers visiting the area that they absolutely have to go see it.
I've even had buyers send me pictures from their visit!
That's what I love about Mills River. You can spend the morning surrounded by nature, take care of everyday errands without a major expedition, and still have plenty of places to explore and enjoy.
It's country living without feeling disconnected from the world.
Mills River offers an interesting combination of lifestyles, and that's one of the things I appreciate most about living here.
You can find established neighborhoods with mature trees and homes that have been part of the community for decades. You can find working farms, larger properties, golf communities and newer residential developments.
But Mills River is changing, and I think buyers need to understand that before deciding where to live.
If you're looking for convenient access to Asheville, Hendersonville and the airport while still enjoying a more rural setting, Mills River may be a wonderful fit.
If you love outdoor recreation, appreciate having everyday shopping nearby, and want a community that offers both quiet surroundings and an active lifestyle, there's a lot to love here.
But if you're looking for complete seclusion, or expect every surrounding pasture to remain undeveloped forever, it's important to understand the realities of growth.
The Mills River you experience today may look different ten years from now.
That's why I encourage buyers to look beyond the house itself. Consider the surrounding land, nearby development, road access and the character of the neighborhood.
I've lived here for seven years, and I love it. But my goal is to help you decide whether Mills River is the right fit for you—not simply convince you that it is.
After seven years of calling Mills River home, I know firsthand what makes this community special.
From its agricultural roots and established neighborhoods to its newer developments, Mills River offers so many different ways to live.
Finding the right home means understanding the neighborhood, surrounding land and lifestyle—not just the house.
I'd love to help you discover whether Mills River is the right place for you.
